I know a person who by the looks of it has got, what they call OCD.
Let me narrate to you all the 'rituals' he does
When he has to start his bike, he inserts the key and removes it and inserts it again. He does this a number of times. This number, when you count it, is anywhere between 2 to 9. Once I've seen him go till 18! But each number has it's own significance, he'd like you to believe
Turns ON & OFF the switches a couple of times. In fact, the TV switch in stuck permanently in the ON position because of this
Turning ON & OFF taps - a couple of times
Puts the glass down, lifts it,
puts it down again and so on, till he's 'satisfied'
Sets the TV volume @ 24
Always keeps open a new tab in the browser while browsing the net
Types the space character @ the end in every text that he sends (also uses question mark or the exclamation mark twice or thrice)
Zipping up his bag (or a zip lock cover or any zip for that matter) takes a while. No particular count for this but he'll do it till he gets it 'right'. And for those of you who are wondering - yes, it does take him quiet a while to dress up :))
Closing doors - does it a couple of times too. For the cupboard doors in his room, 7/8/9 are his favourite numbers (again, each with a reason he'd like you to believe)
He hates fingerprints on the mobile screen. Keeps wiping it quiet often
Climbs only 3 or 5 steps at a time. 5 if they are small ones
Turning pages of a book or the newspaper is kind of a trouble spot for him. He just doesn't seem able to do it (turn the page) the first time. (His roomates in Chennai during college know all too well about this:))
Wearing the ID card while going to college (yes, they have to wear ID cards to college. Horrible college) - runs the whole length of the rope with his fingers before wearing it
And my favourite - putting the cap back on the pen. Absolute must watch! That's why he prefers click type pens
The urge to perform these rituals is more, I've noticed, when in a tense situation. Like when in a hurry. And at any given time, it's just one of the rituals that is quiet troubling - the rest, he can get done with them easily i.e. in less number of attempts. But it keeps changing. And sometimes he starts doing some ritual that's entirely new
If you haven't realized it by know, I am that guy :)) All these might sound tiresome, which they are at times. But a lot depends on the state on the mind. It's kind of helpful though :)
I don't know for sure how i, for the lack of a better term, 'got it'. But I do have a theory. or more like a stupid hypothesis.
